Pink Bedrooms

I have designed pink bedrooms for grown-up clients as much as I have for children.

I don’t know what it is about pink bedrooms. I love them. They aren’t just for kids, either. In fact, my daughter’s bedroom is yellow, and her last one was lavender.

I have put in a few pink bedrooms for grown-up clients, too. Even a single older man with kids grown and flown ended up loving a peachy-pink grasscloth from Schumacher and we chose that for one of his guest/visiting kids’ rooms.

There is something ineffably wonderful about a pink bedroom. They seem quiet and private and soothing. Maybe it’s because we try so hard to make things appealing to guests and multiple family members in the rest of the house, cleaner and more severe and sophisticated. Maybe it’s hard for us to be soft in public. Maybe it’s because the bedroom seems (to me, as a female), a particularly feminine place. But how bad could it be for anyone of any gender to wake up to the inside of a seashell?

There are so many wonderful shades of pink, from mauve to magenta—and I mention these two far ends of the spectrum because of these two mood boards I’ve put together on those themes. Both are pink, and wildly different.

Pink is neutral! It goes with every other color. It is a lovely compliment to old wood. You can go black or brown or gray or with another fun color. Pick a pink and let yourself have fun!

Brick Bond

Solid brick walls aren’t laid like subway tile. Using perpendicular bricks gives stability to the structure, and that pattern is called brick bond.
